#1 Indicator warning lamps light only once

Post by rojakilian » Thu Apr 28, 2016 4:07 pm

Hello from Germany,

the indicator warning lights (middle of the dash between rev counter and speedo) only light up once when i apply the indicator...what is the reason?? I guess they should light up as long as the indicator lights at the car??

Any help would be gladly appreciated....

Best regards

Robert

It sounds as though the flasher unit has failed . This is a bi-metal unit which operates the indicators and it is the opening and closing of the bi-metal contacts which provides the clicking noise. It is a cylindrical can about 2 centimetres long , usually to be found under the dash near the driver's side instruments although it might also be found inside the drop down flap of the centre instruments

Hi Christopher,

thanks for your reply, it seemed the the indicator relais is working, the lamps at the car are lighting as they should, only the lights at the control only light once...

I agree with Christopher. Sounds like your flasher unit has failed. Hides under the dash. Five minutes job to change but make sure you get one with three terminals.

I suggest you find the flasher unit and see that it still has 3 wires connected . If your car is negative earth , it should have a green/brown wire to the L terminal, light green to the P terminal, and green to the B terminal.

If you are a 3.8 with positive earth, then light green/brown goes to L, light green/purple to P and green to B ( I think this is right, but I haven't got a 3.8 diagram before me to check )

In each case, the B terminal is the power input, the P terminal the connection to the warning lights, and the L terminal to the flasher switch and from there to the flasher lights themselves

Robert

Connect the cable from the P terminal(warning lights) to the L terminal(column flasher switch) If the warning lights now operate then you've definitely proved it's the flasher unit.

Hello,

I have the same "problem" on my 3.8 pos earth with new wiring loom fitted.
green/brown = L
light green = P (2 wires)
green = B (X on my new flasher unit)

Just to say Robert, you're not alone.

Regards
Dirk
