#1 Shoulder harness bolt
Good day, All
Apparently there is a chrome escutcheon (spelling?) that fits around this shoulder harness bolt under the quarter window. Jag P/N BD.24411
I can not find this and possibly it was never there when I got the car.
This item does not seem to be available from the usual sources.
Would it be convenient for someone to post a photo with dimensions?

This posting must not have resonated with anyone since no response. Possibly I'm being too myopic in this restoration! Can anyone recommend a used past supplier that might have some interior parts such as this.
Many thanks again

This chrome escuteon is not fitted to 3.8 cars, at least alloy dash cars, but was fitted to 4.2. It's not clear which car you have. On my own 62 car the tapped hole was in the body side but the original interior side trim was not drilled to take a seat belt. I fitted a spacer to lift the belt buckle off the trim .

My mistake for not indicating this is a 1965 FHC. There is a threaded steel boss welded in place just below the quarter windows on both sides. The new interior panels have been notched to accommodate this boss and it appears there should be a chrome piece that slips over to cover the boss and "dress it up". Furthermore I believe there is a chrome screw or cap that threads in.
This is such a small issue but it is quite noticeable when missing.

Ah, yes this is what I thought. The 3.8 does not have the extended boss but a flush tapped hole, no doubt with a welded on nut behind. As for the chrome cap it would not surprise me if this was fitted to other cars of the period. It may be worth trawling through E Bay or speaking with Pawel at SBS Quick fit who is very knowledgable.Wicker Francis wrote:My mistake for not indicating this is a 1965 FHC. #8 Chrome bolt for 3 point seatbelt
Hi,
I assume you mean this? My car is a November '63 FHC. I'll get the dimensions tomorrow and let you know.

Thanks, Everyone
Yes, Richard that is it !!
It appears the slotted screw holds the escutcheon in place?

Yes, it's not a screw as such, more a slotted bolt!

What is the history of seat belts in E-Types? When, if ever, were they optional, when did they become standard equipment.
I was under the impression that my 1963 was not born with them.

My 1966 S1 US has seatbelt anchors fitted, and one belt was loose around in the car. Fairly rotten I think. No second belt sadly.
I have a set of early Citroen SM belts I maybe fit- lap belts, and they use flipover handles, ultimately 60's aeroplane style. Citroen only fitted them to 1970 SM models, changed in 1971. Very rare, full chrome metal and black belts.

All E-Types produced from the beginning of 1962 had anchorage points for seat belts. Cars 850301, 876359, 860113 and 885318 onwards. Spares Bulletin P48 February 1962 refers. From April 1962 the seat belts were available from the Jaguar Spares Department as part number 9212 @Front Seat Belt (Lap and Diagonal fitting), Complete with Attachment Bolts and Eye Bolts@

My 65 FHC didn't have belts fitted originally. They're fitted now though.
