Headbanger reminds me of one moment when under the E-Type playing with an exhaust hanger. I received a visit from my neighbour's staffie bitch. She licked my ear, turned and ran away. Two things you need to know about staffies. 1 they only have one speed -flat out. 2 at this speed they have a stopping distance equivalent to a slick tyre on a wet road. Not only did she lick my ear, she hit my shoulder so hard it hurt. That's when I banged my head.

I think you may well find that the 1,2,3 is not getting a 12 volt supply. If the voltage supply is down, the system doesn't work. Check with a meter. if wired correctly and still doesn't work, get another 1,2,3. Not unknown to be faulty.

My car, with the 123 is very reliable, until last week.

I came to it. It has always caught immediately. This time it didn't. It turned over for 10 seconds or so, then it was on one then two, then it evened out.

First time in hundreds of starts this has happened.

Then I noticed the tick-over was uneven, like the engine was hunting.

The car drove OK, however power trailed away over 3,500rpm under heavy load.

I pulled off the cap, and low and behold, the carbon centre brush was noticeable by its absence.

I must have clipped the cap down wrong angle at some stage on knocked it off. It still sort of worked though.

£20 later from the local motorfactor (Beru VK102), and all is back to normal. My fault entirely.

I am pleased with my 123....so far. I did think the cap doesn't locate very well on the base however. I Could see how you could get them squew wiff.

I agree the cap is a poor fit on the base, I have had a carbon brush break too.
