Quater Light Window Problem

I would appreciate some information on the quarter lights on a Series 1 2+2.

The window assembly consists of a latch with three pivot points and is mounted to the frame with two screws. The B post connection is a slotted receiver that receives the semi-circular bar on the window frame. A chrome stripe with 5 screws theoretically holds the hinge assembly in place.
Recently when on the road one window unlatched and the split pin dropped out. The window was hanging by the hinge assembly.
When I went to make the repair the window would fall out without the latch locked in either the open or closed position.

The question is ... is this normal? If not what is wrong?

Hi Bob....with the latch disconnected the window should still be held in place by the hinge....its not the best hinge and relies on the screws holding the retainer in place to work....if i remember correctly the retainer has one edge chamfered so needs to be put in tbe right way around.....the retainer needs to be screwed in tight so the window dosnt move up and down......if not tight enough it will pop out
