I had my wheels powder coated in what is described as chrome effect. I guess it's best described as a half way house between painted and chrome. To stay the least, I'm really pleased with how they've turned out.

No brainer ... earlier cars look so right with 'painted wires'. Each to their own but I have had both types on my cars in the past. Here is my 1962 in restoration, 'painted' looks great with the chrome spinner.

I think I’m kind of persuaded by the painted looks so right on earlier 3.8s...should set off my rechromed spinners perfectly

I just want to add painted wheels everytime. And black painted if it goes with outside colour.

And don't do powder coating. It will avoid any future adjustments to the wires, e.g. if the wheel gets out of shape.

I went the other way - black painted to chrome.

Yes..I must say I have never seen a car that looks good with black wheels, old or new!

I'm obviously out of step. Chrome wire wheels were always a big attraction to me, both at the time and now. At shows, I've often had people commenting on the chrome wires, taking photos just of the wheels, etc. Shiny chrome sets the rest of the car of regardless of colour in my view. I'm quite surprised so many people have gone painted! Bit like spoked wheels on classic bikes, chrome wires always look the business. Maybe just me.

I think both have their merits
I kind of like a bit of understatement on the early cars
The painted should look particularly good as I’ve gone to the bother of rechroming the original spinners...it kind of sets them off

Albeit it was not my idea. I saw it in 2011 on 850026 and I fell in love with it. In particular as 26 was not restored and therefore looked authenticly aged and a bit bad with the black wires. Since then I try to achieve the same with my car.
Unfortunately I have to change the bonnet at one point in the future.
