Haha, Harry, and then you only have the SMALL six option, at that!

Having a RHD car here I often have other people pull up beside me at a light and remark about the car, which is generally quite nice.

One guy pulls up and says, "Nice car. That's the twelve, right?"

"Nah", I say, "it's just got the small six." (There not really being time to explain to him how it is actually powered by the legendary 5-time LeMans winning, Ferrari thrashing, double overhead cam hemi-head 3.8 litre Jaguar XK engine.

"Well, never mind", he condescends, "It looks nice, anyway."

Regarding the "twelve option", I once had a guy insist that the bonnet on my car was originally meant for the Jaguar straight twelve.

You're right, they do sound a bit disappointed when you say no to a twelve. I practically never had the question in the UK yet have been asked practically nothing else over here.

Haven't noticed any disappointment since I've been saying 'twin cam hemi'. Good idea to add the Le Mans heritage to that but fear most wouldn't know what it meant.

"Nah, it's the twin cam hemi race engine" perhaps?

It will be interesting to see what the response is when I answer yes to V12.

Hi Harry,
If it's like here in Australia the next question is normally " can I have a look under the hood?"

I drove to Dutton Forshaw's in Preston back in late 73 or early 74 to pick up some previously ordered rear brake pads. On the return journey (M6 North) I was overtaken by a Cortina Mk11 and a Triumph Vitesse which appeared to be racing each other at around 80mph. I was travelling at the speed limit in force at the time which was 50mph, anyone remember the petrol crisis ! My friend said to me "go on over take them" so I put my foot down, by this time both cars were someway ahead in the distance and back in the middle lane as I approached and passed them at an indicated 146-148. I have to say the outside lane seemed awfully narrow at that speed but the car felt stable enough, I never went that fast again but had a few trips up to 135 or so. Wouldn't try it now, probably as I'm not 20 anymore but ................
