Maybee i havent quite explained correctly......the Gaz adjustable platform shock isnt designed to use original length springs.....with adjustable platform type you use a spring designed for it (shorter)....the spring just slips on the shock and you screw on the large adjuster platform......spring compressors should not be required.....Its obvious that you will have a much higher ride height if you force on an original spring.....just measure the spring perch to fixing eye center at both ends of your shocks.....you will find the adjustable platform shock is around an incn longer (thickness of the adjuster platform)...hence you need a spring thats around an inch shorter......Steve

Thanks Steve, I get all that.....I was thrown off course by SNGB telling me that a regular trade customer of theirs always uses their standard springs ( not the short ones) I wish I had known that before buying the shocks as I now have to buy 4 x springs at £60 each. Anyway, I will see this through and at least I can report on my findings of the shock absorber performance.

Thanks for the post on the Macpherson strut compressor. They look a good thing and I had been looking at them on line. But I will not need them now.

Hi Andrew....return the shocks.....get a set of the Girlings.....fit your original springs......if you want to be sure you get exactly the same ride right height then measure the perches...including the fitting ring i mentioned on your previous post. .......Steve

I have already had the Girlings and returned them. I was told by 2 x E type specialists that the settings are all wrong and they ride dreadfully. I compared the compression and rebound with my Girlings and they are like rock hard. So no Girlings thank you .

Now your being funny! Go and buy some new girlings and try them for yourself. I also had a set of brand new Boge here and the Girlings are completely wrong. I would not have noticed if it had not been pointed out to me by these two shops who have fitted and removed them. incidentally my 50 year old Girlings are not leaking and all have the same amount of compression and rebound when tested in my hands. I also drove the car for quite a few miles and it drove like Norman Dewis intended. I am only changing them because I am doing a nut and bolt and cannot vouch for the long term life of the originals. It would not be the first item SNGB ( and others ) have made which is reverse engineered and is not correct.
