Thanks for all the help, at the end of the day I do have good charge and it seems to be working correctly. Chris.
What if you want to drive in the morning? :-)

Hi, the alternator is an evening problem, my brain doesn't work in the mornings.
On another easy topic, I can't remove the headrests, they have a single pillar into the seat and seem impossible to pull out. The inside of the headrest has turned from sponge to mushy powder. Any ideas? Chris

They're not meant to come out unless someone has mashed the spring steel tang in the end of the tube by violently pulling up or getting at it through the seat back during refurb. If you want them to come out, that 'someone' will have to be you ...

Thanks for that, I don't feel like getting aggressive with a head restraint so I may have to live with it, the seats are in good condition and I'd rather leave them in peace for the moment. Chris.

"As I understand it, Jaguar decided that there was no need for an ignition warning light as you have an ammeter. They were too tight to replace the speedo with a new type so left the ign warning light as it was. BUT customers would have complained if the ign warning light did not light up and go out when it SEEMED the alternator was charging. So they connected it to an oil pressure switch which made it seem that it was working like an ign light."

That is hilarious!

good spot Hugo, you have now resolved my conundrum.

Oil pressure gauge white/brown to the oil pressure sender. Check. :salute:

Ignition wng light (thick wire) Brown/Black cable tied off at the mo.
Is this the way it should be..
I have nowhere to connect the Brown/Black, certainly not to the same spade at the oil pressure sender, as I have a white wire on the other side of the ign wng bulb.

I have a 64 S 1 4.2 with four terminals on the alternator and only trlhree wires on the loom. The main one is obvious as it has a ring terminal with two spades next to it and one on its own on the right. Any help gues . ThankImages

I have taken alternator off and there are no marks under the pully. The single spade terminal which is isolated has AL next to it..

Early car alternators only used 3 wires....later used 4 wires and the AL that connects to a 3Aw ignitiont warning lamp.....sounds like you have a later alternator and Early harness.....Steve
