As I continue to root through our pre-restoration '62 S1 3.8 OTS, I thought I would share some pictures of the seats (please ignore the other non standard trim on the wider angle picture which is destined for a skip at some point. The seats are extremely strange. They are hinged at the back and attempt to match the design of the original in terms of their shape. I have included a few photographs. Apart from the fact that they need to be completely replaced as part of the restoration, I have no idea what car they could have come from and, from an interest point of view, would like to find out (if nothing else to advertise for sale!).
What is more difficult to work out is what (if any) of the under-seat mechanism remains. The Leverall mechanism on the LHD Driver's side appears to be present but it is not on the passenger side. As such, views welcome on the photos. Also, does anyone know where you can purchase the underseat mechanisms from since the SNG Parts (BD22812K and BD 32688) don't seem to mirror what I've seen on pictures of '62 cars? Finally, does anyone know where to source good original spec OTS S1 seats in their entirety? This was always going to be one of the challenging parts of the restoration in terms of sourcing good quality parts.

Hi Phil,
They look a bit like Healey seats to me but obviously one has been a bit doctored to clear the chassis rail.
See seats photo of BN4 version here...

I have an October62 3.8 OTS and part number BD22812K works fine with my original seats & floor fixings.
Btw, suggest you add your name & car details to signature so we know who we're talking to & what car derivative we're talking about.
Oh, and I spotted these on Ebay...

Hi Phil,
Chuck at Monocoque Metalworks in the States also make excellent copies if that's any help.
Worth a look, if only for the pictures and descriptions.

Hi - if it is of any interest I have a pair of rare early short travel roadster seats and seat slides that I am happy to sell. These are intended for the straight rear bulkhead cars but will still fit later models as well. I want to retain the cushions but these are easily obtainable.
The background is that I imported 1962 FHC 886763 from the US in 2013 and subsequently discovered that at some point the wrong seats had been fitted which I intend to replace with the correct FHC Robey seat shells of the correct wider width across the shoulder.
Cheers

Many thanks for that info..... The seats do look a very close match - I've enclosed two other pictures (when the car was for sale in California) which shows the seats more fully (alongwith a completely non-standard console box which I've already removed). Perhaps the Austin Healey Owners Club will be my starting point for disposal of them.neil4444 wrote:Hi Phil,
