#1 Tracking original reg

Post by NWplasterers » Wed Feb 01, 2017 2:42 pm

Hi all !
NWR 523 D.
This is the original registration for my S1 2+2.
Although I'm not over bothered with its current '66 D registration,I would like one day to reunite car and plate.
I am aware it is in use but can find out no more than that !
Any ideas.

Many thanks
Neil.

I believe I'm correct in saying that you have to convince the DVLA (so rather arbitrary) as to why you wish to contact the present owner (past photos might be helpful) - whether for example one could write a letter and ask them to forward to the present owner I'm not sure, but worth giving the DVLA a ring - I had occasion to speak with them a year or so back and they were extremely helpful and provided guidance which proved satisfactory...

Hi Steve
The guy I purchased from told me he'd tried to track it I'm guessing with the DVLA,and all he could be told is that it was in use.
It's just become a little pet project to be fair, just to see if I could find it.
I'll try your idea as well.
I vaguely remember Quentin Willson regaining the original plate for his from,I think, the DVLA.
Worth a try I hope !

There is an iPad app called My Car Check. You just put a number in and it displays the make etc, its not showing on there....

Hi all.
So the latest consensus of opinion is that the original Reg no. is likely to be on retention and I should try and speak with a 'friendly' representative from the DVLA.

Any ideas ?

Kind regards to all

Neil.

There is definitely one called 'mycarcheck'. My car has been off the road since the pre-SORN days and its reg doesn't show up with this app. It does here though:
https://www.gov.uk/get-vehicle-information-from-dvla
Unfortunately the government site is not much use to the original poster if the vehicle make is unknown.

Hi guys
Thanks for your continued input.
Therein lies my problem. I have no idea if indeed it is on another make /marque of vehicle or,as suggested on retention.
It would seem that without knowing someone with access to DVLA info,I'm going to find it impossible to make headway !
On another note,I'm compiling a mental list of jobs/improvements I'd like done in the car as I get to know it (purchased in September) I have spoke to etype UK at the London car show and am considering taking to them for an initial appraisal.
Any thoughts on either etype UK or any recommendations on other garages near the brands hatch area ?

Best regards as always

Neil.
