#1 Principal Hood Anchorage/Pivot point please ?

Post by rfs1957 » Mon Jan 30, 2017 8:17 pm

Something tells me that an apparently 1/4 UNC chromed bolt with a bit of copper pipe and a swathe of washers is probably NOT the way that this is meant to be fastened.

More PO botches ?

The thread in the body will be nasty, so can I tap it out to 5/16 UNF or should I helicoil it back to 1/4 ? If anyone can tell me what the appearance and order of the pivot-bolt and bits should look like I'd be very grateful.

It takes a chrome-plated shoulder bolt 1/4 - 28 thread with a dome head, and a brass washer. I can post a pic if you need one.

FWIW, I had to substitute a setup similar to what you show, because the support stick was binding on the side panel.

Thanks Bob, It looks like bolt BD19160 is the right one

http://www.sngbarratt.com/PartSearchRes ... no=BD19160

- it looks to have a parallel section which is way longer than the thickness of the side-stick is thick, is the spacer to obtain the clearance with the side-cheek actually more of a sleeve ?

This one looks like the top hinge bolt at the top of the B pillar.
Not the one for the single frame arm on the panel.

The one you need is BD19393 Hoodframe bolt chrom £7.40 ea

Indeed that DOES look more like what I was expecting, with a shoulder, presumably 5/16", to carry the lower end of that pivoting side arm where it fastens to the car body to either side of the seats.

So it tightens up hard and leaves a parallel shank to carry the strut, right ?

Wonder why is it referred to as "Rear Quarter Top Arm Chrome Bolt" on the SNGB site then ?

You must be correct Tony, as in J.30 (for the non-initiated, and not long that included me, J.30 is what we refer to the Parts Book as when we want to sound smart, which now includes me) it calls it - appositely - Bolt, Special, securing Control Link to Body.

Many thanks, that's one less wrong-part-ordered.

No dramas Rory, i had been looking out for the #???? For six months, then tripped over it it looking for something else, as we do. :salute:
The thought of buying a set of hood bolts, for one damn bolt was not going to happen.
I now know that **G do not have every nut and bolt online.
