#1 Chrome wing beading

Post by Michaelg » Mon Jul 17, 2017 6:12 am

Does anyone know whether the chrome headlight surrounds sit on top of the bonnet beading, or is the beading cut off short so the surround can fit the bonnet contour? Mine is an S1 4.2 Coupe 1966.

I have seen it done both ways , but I believe ( not dogmatic about it ) that originally the bead fitted through the rubber gasket and ran underneath the trailing edge of the headlamp surround. When one thinks about it, Jaguar would not have had it made to a length longer than necessary

Thanks Christopher. I've tried to look at contemporary photographs but none of them are clear enough to be definitive.

Originally (l have seen a few, what l believe to be untouched cars) the bead was butted up to the chrome and had a radius shape filed (or maybe they were made like it) that follows the shape of the chrome surround.
