My 1966 2+2 was sold to me with these wheels, which appear to be Borranis (if they and the spinners belong to each other). The car also came with a set of pristine Jaguar wire wheels and the non-curly spinners.



The strip down of the car is about to begin and I am starting to think about which jobs to farm out. The wheels on the car will clearly need to be attended to if I keep them, as will the ghastly tyres. I live not too far from the Borrani factory in Milan and am considering whether to get them serviced/refurbished.

However, before I decide to pay a small fortune to have them refurbished, are there any good automotive, rather than aesthetic, reasons for keeping the Borranis over stock, please? If there are none, I might simply sell them...

Borrani's are superb and the build quality is incredible:

They each weigh 2kg less than the standard wheels as they have alloy rims so unsprung weight is reduced and you can really feel the difference in the way the car glides over the road surface. A new set of four will set you back about €5,500 and the spinners another €1,000. No idea what the refurb will cost but it is unlikely to be cheap! Keep them if you can.

The 10kg weight saving (yes, there is a spare, too) sounds like a very good automotive reason. But at €7500 new, I should perhaps keep the Borranis for Sunday best and retain the other set for garage and back up duties!

I would just use them - mine have covered about 30,000 miles and they still look good. No point being precious about them. Besides they make such a difference to the way the car feels on the road you would be missing all that fun! You only live once.

You're right. And I'd have the others if anything befell this set, I suppose.

Well, the spare set can keep the chassis rolling while Borrani weaves its magic on the wheels.

I agree with David, but use original spinners which I have had rechromed. I think the engraving in the Borranis are too thin.
5 or 5,5" with 185 XVS. Brilliant.
6" with 205 XWX loks great but the steering is a little heavier.
