Wire not attached behind Rev Counter
#1 Wire not attached behind Rev Counter
Having taken the dashboard top off my car to deal with the Washer Jets (see other post), I thought I would quickly check over the wiring behind the speedo and rev counter. Apart from 2 bulbs that were not correctly inserted, I spotted the following unattached (and uninsulated wire). It is black and red. I cannot see on the wiring diagram what this might relate to and whether it should be connected. Any takers?

Black red is the colour for the left hand indicator warning lamp on the dash.

Are you certain it is black red and not black/brown? One of the indicator repeaters has a black red but the bulb holder is moulded on so it is unlikely the wire fell off. If it is actually black/brown and has a spade receptacle on the end then it is one of the wires from the rev counter that goes to the generator on the inlet cam shaft.

The red line looks very thin....is it a wire that goes back into the harness....or is it a later addition

It's just the angle the photo was taken, the red line is thicker than it looks there. On further investigation (and thank you to those who replied earlier on this post), I can see there has been a partial re-wire. There is a black/red surplus old wire and a black/white old wire. Both are from the old loom wiring for the indicator displays. On the photo below, you can see the indicator bulbs have the remnants of the old wires which are then joined in connectors to new wires. Unfortunately, these are different colours! Using a tester, I shall see what wires can be safely removed and/or appropriately labelled for future maintenance.mgcjag wrote:The red line looks very thin....is it a wire that goes back into the harness....or is it a later addition
