As part of the recommissioning of my 3.8 LHD OTS, I need to reconnect the washer jets. Having removed the dashboard top yesterday, I've located the original plastic hoses and T-junction. These were obviously disconnected at the time of the car's last respray in California and never reconnected. The plastic hoses are brittle and need to be replaced (easy) but then then need connecting to the washer jets. I can see these are attached by chromed wing-nuts in the bulkhead cavity. However, for the life of me, I cannot see how I can get finger or plier access to these to attach the hoses.
For those who have restored their cars from scratch (or had to re-attach these hoses at some point), how did you do so?
Hoses to screen washer jets

Philk,
There are/is at least one link regarding this topic. In a nut shell it talked about "borrowing" a young child to reach into the cavity, undo the wing nut, pull washer out (hose attached), replace the hose with wing nut threaded over hose, and having said child reinsert wing nut on washer, being careful not to cross thread.
Do a search or check the topics below.
Hope that helps.

#3 Re: Hoses to screen washer jets
Greetings:
The way I did it was I disconnected the wiper linkage and laid it down carefully in the bulkhead. You will see there is a small nut and stud (I think, or its a bolt) you can undo to make this happen. This clears the way to install the hoses. Again, take care so the linkage goes back together correctly. You don't need that binding up. Maybe take a picture first so you may refer back. Also a good time to make sure the washer jet nozzles are pointing the right way. You don't want to tear into your dash again to fix that.

It did indeed - at least for one of the nozzles. My 13 year old assisted with that. However, we cannot reach the one behind the speedo area (we have a LHD). I need to adjust the wiper mechanism anyhow as part of the recommissioning so it's time to undo the wiper assembly and lower it down (noting the good advice on the forum to attach string etc!cdaubs wrote:Philk,

#5 Re: Hoses to screen washer jets
So, after a long weekend, the work was nearly finished. Two washer jets reconnected (with the assistance of both 13 and 17 year old sons), rubber washers hand-made to go between the jets and the washer jet bodies (which allow a fine-tuning of the jet angle), rubber washers made to go between the wing-nuts and the body underneath and all the tubing inserted and fed through to avoid fouling the wiper mechanism. Two tasks remain; firstly to build a tool that can be used to "push" the hoses back up to the top of the bulkhead so they sit behind the brackets that are there for that purpose. Secondly, to do further work on the Lucas 2SJ washer pump. We managed on one occasion to get a good pressure of water through the pipes from the pump to spray the windscreen. However, that was a one-off. Otherwise, the pump has sufficient oomph to feed the water up to the jets but not much beyond that.
Since the pump motor is working fine, does anyone have any experience of stripping down/servicing the 2SJ "Syphon" arrangement to get a better flow? I've searched on the forum but with no real luck.
