Can anybody point me in the right direction for this topic as I'm sure it must have been discussed before I have done a search and haven't been able to find anything. It's time to replace the front wheel bearings on my car. I have replaced plenty on other cars but never on the Etype. Do you require any special tool to remove the old bearing case and does it require a press to refit them. I have removed the hub and the old taper bearings and oil seal but the out case of the bearing are solid. I have tried to punch them out from the inside ( not too much force as I don't want to damage them until I know I can replace them. If any body has got any advice or can point me to a previous thread I would very much appreciate it.

Just removed the old bearing races from my 62 hubs using this trick. You need a welder though. Worked like a champ. You must remember to let the weld cool and shrink.

Just use a suitable drift and a big hammer.

Hi Phil....as Andrew says above....hammer and drift..just make sure you use something non sharp with a flat end ive used a slim chisel but flatend the end with a grinder.....you will need a hefty whack and work your way around....a press is much better for putting the inner race back in, trying to tap it in can make it go off center, but can be done... Thanks for the replies now I know that it is just a bit of brute force I'm going to grind a flat chisel at work today with a slight curve on it to allow me to get a bit better contact. The other wheel bearings I have changed have had a bit more of a face exposed making it easier to hit and remove.

Go on, buy yourself a bench top hydraulic press. You deserve it!

Much easier to get a bearing square, less chance of a little bit of swarf getting lodged underneath, resulting in a skew bearing and accelerated wear, and it looks soooooo cool sitting in the bench top. Every man-cave should have one.

You might be right about a press just been looking on eBay at them I'm sure I can find something else to press as well even if it's just grapes
