#1 Under dash millboard panels-3.8

Post by david muir » Fri Jun 16, 2017 9:31 pm

Should the under dash panels on my '64 3.8 be in millboard or aluminium( car is late 3.8 so has centre and door armrests)? Also, if it's millboard , are they then covered by hardura mat in the trim colour? If it's aluminium , are these covered in the trim coloured 'leathercloth' ?
Thanks

Interestingly, I had a similar question since one of my panels is missing. The remaining ones are aluminium on my June '64 3.8

Mine too-although the 'middle' one looks to be homemade. I'm only missing the one at the far off-side!

My very early and unmolested 4.2 (1E30036, built 9/64) had vinyl-covered alloy panels under the dash. I couldn't find any reference (probably didn't look hard enough at 5:00 AM) in Haddock's restoration guide, but my guess is that the change to hardboard took place early in 1965, when a host of other features unique to the 3.8 were replaced.

My later S1 OTS-66 has the aluminium under dash
panels however covered in something else than vinyl and same as if you look in the 3.8 factory fit pages.
