I am in the process of getting rid of some after-market horns and wiring in the bonnet cavity of my S1 '64 OTS. Fortunately, the wiring loom is all present and correct in the engine bay and, having found the original taped off connection from the loom, I have tested continuity to the back of pin 4 of the connector inside the bonnet cavity. My problem (as per the photo below) is that someone has used part of a later bonnet harness loom so Pin 4 does not have the purple/yellow coming out of the centre hole.
Prior to undoing all of the connector assembly, does anyone know how these were originally assembled (I cannot find any photographs on the web of one dismantled). All I need to do to get things working is to get a wire secured into the Pin 4 hole but don't want to risk breaking things by blundering in without relevant knowledge. Many thanks!

The socket comes apart quite easily and the wires are soldered in place. You should be able to solder a new wire to pin 4 once you have the socket in hand and thoroughly cleaned. If anything goes wrong you can buy an excellent replacement from SNGB which uses screw terminals rather than soldered, and it of far higher quality than the original.

I had seen the SNG replacement (the screw fittings were very tempting). However, I'd also read on another post that someone then had trouble with it connecting with the original female 8 pin connector from the main engine loom. As such, (and to try and keep things as original as possible), I will have a go at the strip-down of the original and solder a new wire into it.

Hi,
I also had this issue. The replacement part supplied does not fit well with the original female connector on the bonnet and both ended up being replaced.
