Evening all.
I'm looking to replace the air filter drum/casement set up as mine is all wrong in terms of looking somewhere near original.
Now I've looked at parts available from one of the usual guys who I've used all the time but are they any good as I had a conversation recently about header tanks not lasting that long from the same supplier and I recently had one of those fitted !
So my confidence on further in house fabricated parts is a little on the wane,in terms of quality and looks too !
Any thoughts
Thank you
Neil.

Neil, I think you already know the answer to this. There are very few replacement parts made to the original quality and dimensions.
Unfortunately everything is made down to a price.
I bought a complete assembly from a large supplier and although from a distance it looks OK, closer inspection shows it is not that good.
Rolled edges poorly finished.
Latches poor quality.
Mounting holes 5 to 10 mm out.
I would say that it will take me several days of tidying, welding, stripping and re painting to
get it close to the original.
I am quite fussy, and the next man would probably be happy to fit it as is. It holds an air filter and looks something like the original, what more do you want?

Hi Simon
Thank you for the reply. Yes of course I kind of new the answer, but so disappointing.
I would hope that the suppliers sometimes read these posts and would address these issues even if it did cost their customers a few extra pounds for the right product and quality too !
We live in hope !

If you find a supplier who will sell the top and the 2 piece filter support bracket as individual items please let us all know. AFAIK you can only buy the whole unit.

I discussed this with Simon Barrat a few years ago. Same problem, I had the marmelade bin but withoud innards.
He said that on the next batch when they order / make new marmelade bins, he‘d assure that some, say 20, innard sets to be made as well.
For now, he wrote, no chance because they only had full units, and no one ever asked for the bin alone.
So, maybe a good idea to ask him directly, if needed I can (hopefully) dig out his mail.
I myself finally found the parts in the US, paid 70 dollars for them and was lucky - it took some time to trace them down. Iirc they came from a heritage.
