Can anyone confirm whether the door check strap is painted in body colour or natural spring steel?

I've never seen them painted body color, except on those cars subjected to a cheap respray. I couldn't find any photos in Haddock's originality guide, but my guess is that they were installed after the doors and hinges were painted.

There was only 1 strap on my car when I took delivery....as one had snapped in the past...it was a mixture of cream and black...the car was over sprayed Black late in life but was originallly cream...so although I clearly have no definitive proof....I would say body colour is possible

thanks chaps. one of mine has snapped and when I restored the car, the painter did both sides in body colour, which looks very nice. Now I have to decide whether to get it painted or just fit it in natural state. I shall wait for more replies. I am minded to think its natural steel as I cannot see Jaguar going to trouble of painting it separately to the door

Andrew,
Factory Fit S1 4.2, 4th photo from the top. Hard to be sure, but it looks like body colour to me. Def not black. Or rust brown.
Similarly on mine - PO slopped blue paint around the A post during its second respray, but left the hinge and strap alone. Looks like the original OSG.

Don’t believe it was aired separately....I will post 2 pictures ...front and back of mine tomorrow..defiantly looks like a full white coating on the inside and just a rough overspray on the back or outside..,so my guess is they would have been installed on the door and painted in-situ

here you are Andrew
on the top image I have scratched the black paint off to show how a full cream under layer is evident along the whole strap, the lower picture has just a little white in the middle of the strap, hence me thinking the strap was already installed before the doors were painted

I am thinking they were body coloured. It certainly looks better in body colour. Thanks for that.

I have recently come across the original door strap that had broken on my car (it was lying loose in the A Pillar compartment behind the door mechanism!) and I can confirm that it did have factory paint on it.

Hi Tadek
From the picture, I believe it has had a replacement strap given the presence of the white nylon cam on it. They are brass on the original door straps. The strap on mine had the brass cam and was showing the car's original paint colour too.

Mine (1966 4.2 FHC) are the original body color.
