#1 4.2 seat fittings and adjusters

Post by paulsco » Wed Dec 27, 2017 6:55 pm

Hi,

My seats have been ‘modified’ by the PO and I have just discovered that they have cut off the seat raisers

Can anyone give me the basic measurements of the back raising blocks, so that I can re-create them?

Also I am missing the clips that hold the back firmly, so that it doesn’t flip forward every time you brake.
Does anyone know the part number of the black clip and the grey bracket that screws to the underside and the side of the seat and where I might get them.

By the way, only the first photo is mine; the others I have borrowed from the Internet and Jaguar World Magazine.

I am assuming that there is only one of each of these on each seat i.e. they are not on each side of the cushion; are they on the insides or next to the door side?

Thank you,

Paul

Paul, sorry I can't take any measurements cos my seat frames are away at the trimmers... What I can tell you is that the spring clip mechanism to stop the backs flopping forward is only on one side, the door side, of each seat.

Hi Paul.
The catch spring thingy is BD27838, and SNG for one sell them. About £20 each.
The plate they slide over possibly isn't available. I seem to remember that I couldn't find them anywhere, and ended up getting some made in stainless by a local laser cutting firm.
Mind you, it might have been a bit pointless, as it's tricky getting the right level of "stickiness" in the catch. My seat backs still just flop forward when you pull on them.
I can't help you with the raising block dimensions, as the seat would need to be removed from the car to get at them. Do you need them anyway? You'll probably have the seat in the "reclined" position all the time anyway.

On one of my seats, the blocks had been painted over in place - one up, one down. Some previous quality restoration!

Hi Simon,

Thank you for the part number and your information it is most helpful.

I am not a slave to originality, but sometimes I just want to start from an original position and then decide if something needs changing.

I also like the challenge of reconstructing these things.

Strange that the spring clip plate does not seem to have a part number; I will do more searching.

Thanks again,

Paul
