Windows - Removal, Re-fit

Hi Folks ... I am thinking of respraying my 62FHC but is total glass removal a massive job, both removing and re-fitting. Am I best calling a windscreen guy in ?

Provided you don't want to reuse the seals, removal of screen and tailgate glass is fairly easy - just cut through the seals along their middle . The quarter lights are easy to remove, the door frames time consuming but not difficult. It is reinstallation where you might need professional help for the screen in particular

I installed my own windscreen on my '65 FHC, using new rubber, and it was a bugger of a job. I lubricated everything with glycerine and used wooden tongue depressors to work everything in place, but it still took several hours to complete the job. Installing the back glass is actually pretty easy, since it doesn't wrap around as does the windscreen. As Christopher says, the side glass just unbolts from the car, but be sure to note the position and number of any shims.

Hello WELSH 62 I succeded in fitting the wind screen, as an "amateur" so you can do it....







It is more difficult to fit the chrome blades....







At the end it is correct for me .... Good luck

No e type experience but I did my mgb screen etc years back.....re fitting the screen was a bugger...not something to be doing in a cold garage in January. So either get it toasty warm first or wait till summer....warm rubbers are slightly more cooperative than icy cold ones.

The wooden "guide blocks" described by Gary Brinker in the attached J=L thread made the windscreen installation a reasonably straight forward one person task. I used the "seal on glass" method for my FHC. The shaped wooden guide blocks made it simple (after wasting a full day without them).
