Chaps,
I have got hold of a pair of door armrests.
As you see they are black vinyl on grey plastic

Now my car is black with a biscuit interior. (Well it will be after I have fitted it)

I intend to cover the armrest with vinyl biscuit, removing the black. Thats a given.
Now should I paint the grey base part black ?
Checking a few pictures show that it is generally left grey.

On my armrests the top halves are beige (matching the trim) with grey bottom halves.

I don't believe the lower plastic part was ever painted, regardless of the trim colour.

I painted mine beige . The next owner can easily repaint them gray if he /she don't like it. The second photo depicts the yoga block material I used to fashion replacements for the crumbling cushion material. Cuts well with a band saw and is reasonably easy to shape with coarse grit sand paper.

Thanks team, brilliant.

I will recover the top in biscuit as planned and leave the base as is.

I do like your workbench Eric
