#1 Knob for heated rear glass switch

Post by lestere » Thu Mar 01, 2018 12:32 pm

Would any of you know where I may find a knob as on the heated rear window switch as shown in the pic.
The second hand RHD dashboards I purchased for my LHD 66 2+2 were identical in the opposite hand except for the heated rear screen switch and lamp. The dash did come with these but the knob is missing. So if anyone has one of these spare or knows where I can find such and item? I believe they were used on various Jaguar models.
If I can’t find one I will probably modify a standard knurled knob or nut or even make one.
Any pointers would be appreciated.
Thanks
Lester

Can't help directly - I dont think they are available "new". They do sometimes pop up on that well known auction site....

Het Lester, I have a full dash from a Mk 2. Same instruments/knobs as the E-type series 1. I'll check tonight and see if it has the window heating knob. Will let you know.

Lester, I checked my spare dash. I have the red indicator but not the knob. An earlier knobectomy by previous owner I suppose.

I cannot really help here because I do have that knob in my car but I need it there of course, so I cannot sell it.

I however changed its use- the wires on the rear glas are sheared of, so I use it to switch on my Overdrive. Pull it, clonk, engaged.

Hi Carsten
Yes. I was thinking of doing something similar. I do not have a heated rear window but since I now have the holes in my dashboard and switch/lamp I just need the knob. Like you I was thinking of the overdrive in my 2+2 and this switch would be an ideal way of operating this.

If it’s of any help I have made a few for my C type project in brass because they are the same. I can make another one but you have to sort out the chrome yourself.

Thanks Johan.
I guess I will end up turning one myself out of a brass and plating it, if one doesn’t turn up.
Thank you for the offer.

I saw two sets at the Jaguar Spares day in Stoneleigh. Its up again on 18 March. There is a chap sells a lot of model cars, instrumentation and tool oddments near the end of the hall.

Hi Brian, I’m in the process of making one now. I like this kind of challenge.
So not needed now.
Thank you for the offer.
