Hi,

I disassembled my quarter light catch (BD24407) for re chroming.
To remove the knob pin (spoon shaped) it was necessary to drift it out through the small chrome washer (not screw in).
To prepare it for re chroming I thought I should repair the peened end by re cutting it in the lathe and taking off a corresponding amount around the base of the spoon top. All went well until I accidently made the top hat section where the chrome washer sits too small. I didn’t think I should take any more off the end, so I thought, ok; I will braze a bit on the end and re-work it.

Big mistake; the pin is cast brass and just blew away when I tried to braze it
I have ordered a piece of brass and I am going to attempt to make another pin, but before I do, I just thought I would ask if anybody knows if this part is available anywhere?

The only ones I know about are attached to the quarter light and expensive.

If you can get to spares day there's usually lots of catches to be found. Just make sure you get the right ones.

I have a couple of spares in the garage somewhere.

Yes, I go to spares day every year, these days without my rose tinted glasses.

No such thing as a cheap E-Type part anymore unfortunately; you can almost see the vulchers circuling

It could be that you might get the parts you need from catches for other models. There is a lot of commonality between other Jaguar models and models from other marques.

Yes. The price of spares seems to increase in direct proportion to the value of the cars. Production costs have only a small relevance to selling prices.
