I am having an E type rebuilt. It is an ex US car with a 3.3 final drive ratio. I am most interested to learn of anyones experience using a 5 speed box. I would like to know the make and if the box runs quietly or of any problems experienced with it. Hoping that I can get some info to make an informed choice!!!

Boxes I am aware of seem to be either Cosworth based e.g supplied by Guy Broad/ David Manners, or bespoke Etype fabs which seems an expensive item. Frankly I would rather go for a fit once and enjoy even if it is a bit pricey.

Hoping someone can help

Regards WSM

Hi WSM
My only experience is an Etype Fabs Box in my 3.8 coupe
I use 1-4 for most daily driving and the 5th as an overdrive

Driving back from cornwall in the summer the engine was very relaxed at 70 mph..also got 25 mpg overall for the trip
It’s a fabulous box which involves no messing with the chassis and the gear lever position is perfect

Pricey but good

Hi if the car is a roadster a 4 spd is fine with a 3.07 rear end,the only reason I would go for a 5 spd on my 3.8 would be to get better syncro,at 70mph on a motorway with top down you can't hear the engine or anything else above the wind roar anyway! Just my opinion.

Yes the synchro is very nice

Actually I’m rebuilding an early ‘62 OTS and keeping the good old moss box ...I quite enjoy the unhurried change...it just feels right. (Must be my age!)
