Hi All
I am about to make my first classic purchase of a 1966 series 1 4.2 2+2. It has been fully restored but, the engine has been replaced, so not all original. That being said, the car is in immaculate condition!
DOES THE ENGINE REPLACEMENT AFFECT THE VALUE OF THE CAR?
All advice is valued!
Thanks in advance.

Yes, but in this case not by much. 2+2s are extremely under valued compared with other E-Types. Even a fully matching number and concours correct car is never going to be worth more than around £60k in today’s market.
A ‘66 2+2’s value having a non original engine will not be significantly less, if at all as a 2+2 has never been a collector’s car. Rather it is more valuable as a driver’s car, and sensible upgrades to brakes, ignition and fuelling can add value to the driving experience. Indeed a car with a later XJ6 FI engine and a five speed gearbox will perform better be much more confortable on motorways and autoroutes, and be more valuable at sale time. Just hang on to any bits removed.
I don’t worry about the value of my car, I just get it out as often as possible and drive it. You won’t regret driving it, ever.

http://www.xkedata.com for any information on the car and engine number that may throw up a problem....you dont want to be jumping in if the registration docs dont match the car... Steve
