Hi, is there a clear way finding out if the E Type had internal or external fixing of the bumpers originally? On my one there had only been bumpers on the rear with internal fixing (screw from the inside and thread on the bumper). The car had minimum one repainting and the fixing was not made with spacers they used some large nuts and some washers. So this seems to be not original. My E Type is a FHC from 12/1963, in the body are round to oblong holes on the back and in "olive" shape on the front. I have disassembled the bonnet under pan and the bonnet so the shape of the hole on the front is not good seeable on the foto.

Does anybody have experience with sainless steel bumpers? Quality, shape, fit, ...? Stainless steel sounds for me more reliable than crome. The front one are missing and the rear need to be recromed so i could also by new one made of stainless steel. I found some at Harringto, Bumperworld, Oldtimer-Ersatzteile24 and some others.

Hi Chris,

I think they changed the rear to external fittings in 1965.
My November 65 FHC has rear external fittings and internal front fittings, so I would think your 63 would almost certainly have internal fittings.

Hi Chris,
some years ago I got a set of stainless steel bumpers from Group Harrington.
I'm very happy with it. The fit was very good and the looks even more so.
But you need to know that the shine of the VA is brownish while chrome shines blueish.
You need to have the right light to see the difference comparing both side by side.
For some years I just had the rear stainless bumpers fitted while still bearing chrome at the front.
I never saw the difference.

Hi Paul,

Did your car had holes on the rear for fixing the bumpers simmilar to my car as you can see on the fotos or have there been welded bolds on the chassi or how does the fixing look like on the chassi for external fixing?

Hi Chris,

The bolts are welded to a plate that is passed through from the inside and pop rivited on.
