Beginner's Class

Hi All,
Just coming to terms with the red beast in my garage.
Series I 4.2 1965 carmen red coupe. Thought I would get started on something simple, the wipers.
They park 1/3 way up the screen. I have a good service manual but any help would be appreciated.

Before I could get started on that problem I had to show the car to my neighbour.
Slammed the drivers door to get it to shut and the window glass dropped down into the door frame. Working my way through that one at present, have the door panel off.

I am sure other queries that I have would have already been covered in the forum. Not getting much success with the SEARCH function.
I tried FUEL then PETROL.
So here goes what do you guys use to power your cats?
Do use an additive?

Congratulations on your new toy! Sounds as if you are going to be challenging Clive with your own things to do list. I trust you will be following his example and creating your own running report thread.

Search - I am having trouble with the Forum search function. I create the new index and it disappears over night. Just re-created it so give it a go now. We might have to bite the bullet and upgrade to phpBB3 forum software.

You can adjust the wiper park position with the knurled knob on the bulkhead in the engine compartment.

I use either V-Power (99+ octane) or BP Ultimate super-unleaded (97 octane) to avoid pinking. The E-Type was designed to use the old 5 Star 100 octane leaded so normal unleaded is not good except in an emergency. No need for any additives - in fact I would caution against them.

The most likely cause of the door glass falling is that the channel at the bottom of the glass is disengaged from the two wheels on the regulator

This is, I'm afraid, a pig of a job to rectify, requiring 5 hands and a veritable arsenal of Anglo-saxon words

You may be able to reengage it if you wind the regulator until the wheels are at a level where the glass is about 2 inches down from the top, but it is more likely that you will have to unbolt ( at the bottom inside the door) /unscrew ( at the top attaching to the inner side of the door frame) the chrome surround and raise it - together with the glass - 2 to 3 inches. if you can then engage the regulator wheels, you then lower the whole apparatus - winding the window handle simultaneously - until you can screw and bolt everything back into position

The problem is that the wheels have to be positioned forwards of the front end of each channel before you can engage them

Thanks I will have a look at that.
I am not looking forward to the glass re-installing.
That is a job for tomorrow. Wind and rain expected here in the SW.
Will hope to treat and rust proof the inside door panels at the same time.
I work in an unpowered , unlit garage, so make that 6 hands , one to hold the torch.

My local garage is Shell, so I use V Power. Reading Christopher's usual erudite explanation, all I can say, to quote another thread, is "If you can get either of them to stay on more than 10 minutes you're a ******* genius"
If I could understand what to do with that window, I'd think I was a ******* genius! :blinks:
The motto to work under is ' Nil illigitimae carborundum' - translated as 'Don't let the b*st*rds wear you down' Meanwhile, how about a plug in power station with a long extension from Halfrauds, to give you light, battery charger etc.
