Hi Paul here. I have been having issues starting my S 1 4.2 from cold and now can see the choke is not working at all. I think it is not connected below the steering column.
I am unable to work upside down as I have vertigo so does anyone know of a good mobile mechanic that knows e- types near me in Oxford/Abingdon area? I have a few other little issues as well that can be looked at. Heater not working.
Thanks.

Access to the choke mechanism can be gained by removing the tachometer which can be done sitting in the driver's seat.
A little more here

Paul, can you get the car started to drive?
If so there are a couple of people I've heard about not a million miles away, one at Gerrards Cross:

Another in Thame:

I have NO IDEA how good they are and I am NOT giving recommendations, only heard good comments about both. So please contact them with due care.

Paul - nice to hear of someone else close by..... I have used Birks in Thame for a number of years both for the E-Type and a Mk 2. I am a satisfied customer - but unless he know you well, I fear Graham is unlikely to travel to you. He might be persuaded, of course - so use your best patter - he is very interested in getting to know any local (or not so local!) E-Types.
I have used a couple of mobile mechanics in the Abingdon area but it was many moons ago and while my experiences were not always great with them, my experience is probably too long in the tooth to be truly valuable.
While in no way an E-Type expert - or even a Jaguar expert - I've used Martin Gilbert for a number of years - one of their more experienced mechanics rebuilt an XJ6 engine after it overheated and the head cracked. They don't normally do home visits - but again someone in the Abingdon area to try perhaps - but they do get quite busy...…
Good luck - perhaps meet up some time

Thanks for replies I am in Steventon so perhaps we can meet up for coffee. I will contact Birks. I think I might have fixed choke today. Screw was missing on mechanism below carb. Tomorrow morning start up will be the big test.
Thanks both for replies.
