oil filter housing 3.8

Happy New Year !
The oil filter heads / housings of 3.8 and 4.2 engines are slight different.
Some claim they are interchangeable, others say you can't do so. I can not find the final answer and I don't want to gamble.... I am sure someone knows the answer......

I am looking for a 3.8 oil filter head or complete filter, in order to keep the 4.2 engine complete or eventual 4.2 if they are interchangeable.

Is it the "bare" housing, housing with relieve valve etc. or is it a complete filter ?
Just checked the possibilities to ship to the Netherlands, if send via Royal Mail as a gift (ofcourse I pay upfront) I don't have to pay import duties, VAT etc.
Costs for shipment according Royal Mail is GBP6,85 (assuming weigth < 2kgs.)
