#1 Fixing the Y trim piece on centre console

Hi,
Does anybody have a picture of the underside of the Y shaped trim piece on the centre console?

It would appear that mine has been modified (shortened) by the PO and it is unclear what is original and what is not.

I am trying to establish how it is fixed on to the console.

Also is the gauntlet panel where the gear leaver passes through screwed to the bottom; screws upwards, or the top; screws downwards of the centre console.

Oh and can I ask for the mesurement on the console from the remost bend to the end of the console; I think this too has been cut off short.

Thanks,

Paul

Paul : I think it would be helpful if you could post a picture of what you have, as the pieces are difficult to recognise from your description. This particularly applies to the "Y shaped piece"

Mine's at the trimmer but I can tell you that it is held to the rest of the console by metal tabs on it that fold around the console.

If 1962 with the pimpled alloy upper is any good to you, my centre section is complete and trimmed but off the car and I can photograph and measure the item. The Y piece you refer to has to be the top surface that is forked to straddle the gearchange orifice, right ?

The lever surround fits from under and screws face up. Combined pieced held by tabs but lengths vary according to cubby type (none/long/short 2+2).

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your responses.

Here are some ugly pictures of what I have:

So the Y piece is held on with the tabs; thank you Andrew.

My Y piece, the brown crushed velvet in the picture, from what I have discovered so far, does not have the tabs at the front, so this needs to be addressed, but at the back, I can see that two tabs could hold it on in the hand brake hole, but I can't see what would hold it on on the right hand side.

Rory; I am not sure if the early 3.8 one would be the same length as the 4.2, but would be grateful for the measurement if it is not too difficult for you. I can work out the length of the Y piece from the cubby box position, but the main body is not so obvious.

Pete; thanks for the information on the fitting of the gauntlet panel and the 2+2 differences.

Paul
