Hi

I want to install safety belts in a S1 fhc.

I assume there are belts with two or three “anchor points” (I ignore the proper english term for this).

Has anybody any view (installation, fitting, looking, etc) on two versus three points, besides that a three points is probably much safer in case of front collision?

3 point anchor are a miminum.

Only a lap/diagonal , either fixed or inertia reel type, is suitable . The FHC is already equipped with mounting points , a lower one on the B post , with the reel being mounted with a special bracket to the rear point which is just behind the opening quarter window

My engineers at Butlins Classic Cars designed a curved metal bracket (trimmed out in picture) for the inertia reel
It keeps it just below the window line and is very comfortable over my shoulder.
It pivots at the rear at one point

That’s a very neat solution. My 61 has no mounting points as far as I’m aware. What are my options for seatbelt installation?

This is a 62 fhc so we just drilled a point at the back below window level. It’s covered with a black plastic top in the picture. It pivots up and down a little

Robbie, did your 62 not have factory seat belt mounting points? If not, have you had to reinforce behind the 3 drilled holes for each belt? Presumably the mounting hole for the buckle is in the side of the transmission tunnel and the lower sash mount is in the sill?

Presumably the top mounting where your neat trimmed bracket is bolted is reinforced as well?
Is it steel plate you used for reinforcement?

Just thinking about this, is the thread depth on a steel reinforcement plate drilled and tapped sufficient without using a nut on the back?

Hello everyone ! y'll see above what i have fitted in my FHC :
didn't want to see the big reel . So i made a aluminium part which is fixed through the Wheel arch with a inox thick blade Inside the Wheel arch . in that position the reel is less visible
The belt is not too much tightened along the shoulder
In this position the reel is stricly vertical, so the belt can be pulled without any problem.

That also looks very neat Yves, nice job. What brand of inertia belt did you use?
I’d prefer the look of period static belts in my 61 but I know they’re not as comfortable or convenient to use.

The belts with the cat on the lock come from CMC. .....not cheap.

SNGB list a period style, 3 point static seat belt kit complete with Jaguar leaper on the aircraft style buckle. Has anyone bought/used these? Are they the same as the QuickfitSBS item? Pricing is similar but SNG’s delivery cost to me in Aus is much cheaper. (£27 v £100)

Static belts will make your life very difficult at T junctions etc, because they make it very difficult to lean forward . When I had them, I had to slip the diagonal off my shoulder each time and it was both inconvenient and uncomfortable. Reels are far more practical in an E
