My boot catch has failed (while the boot lid is locked down). Has anyone got any ideas on how I can open the boot??? The cable is still attached.

Richard : you don't say what car you have . If it is a FHC or 2+2, then you will have to get into the rear compartment from inside the car ( I hope you're more athletic than me) and then take off the catch cover - 4 screws- after which you should be able to release the catch with a screwdriver. You will have to experiment a little to find which lever you push/pull, but if you can reach it pushing the lowest lever towards the front of the car should open it

If you have an OTS, then on the horizontal undersurface just to the rear of and above the number plate, there should be a hole, pobably covered with a bung. This gives access to the catch, and enables it again to be released with a screwdriver

Best of luck[/quoteChris is right about the acces hole under the numberplate. However, if you haven't got one, you should be able to remove the offside rear light cluster. That should reveal the cable/catch

You may have to remove the number plate to get to the access hole. Jaguar also said you need to use a right angle bend tool (think Allen key) to operate the latch. I think the details are covered in the Owners Handbook or Service manual

My '63 is 'sans hole' so I have a string from the latch to the offside light cluster just in case.
