I want to replace the exhaust including down pipes (but not the manifolds). Looking at the current manifold fitting is this compatible with the exhaust system sold by SNG for a 1.5 DHC. it's not immediately obvious how these fit together and before buying and dismantling would like to check first.

The system sold by SNG will fit I’m sure. I think your issues are more than fitting. It looks as though your manifold has a corner missing or damaged which is not uncommon. Also the nuts are rusty, the problem with this is that when trying to undo these a real possibility exists to further crack the manifolds.

Looks like you may also have a stud missing as well.
A good soak with a releasing fluid (maybe Plus Gas) will help.
Access to the nuts can be awkward as you can see, long extension from beneath may be needed.

Thanks Steve and Tim

Appreciate the tips and will go ahead with ordering the exhaust. The missing corner to one of the manifolds doesn't appear to be causing a problem or leaking so may just stick with old manifolds but will keep an eye out for replacements.

Just fitted a Bell exhaust and used the steel clamps. Several of the joints are blowing exhaust fumes. Any advice on whether I should continue to tighten ; they are already fairly tight but with additional leverage I can probably tighten further. I haven’t used any joining sealant - should I ?
Any tips on where to place the clamp - nearest to the end of the pipe or close to the start of the split/cut in the pipe.

Hi....yes use exhaust sealant.....the Bell exhaust is quite thick steel so the clamps need quite a lot of force to clamp the pipe tight...im assuming your useing the Jubilee type clamp....also fitting the clamp nearer the end of the pipe makes it a bit easier to clamp fully...Steve

Anyone tried clear silicone sealant...it’s worked well on my MGA and Midget between manifold and exhaust, one application and no leaks??
Forgive me if not correct advice for a jag exhaust
