#1 Gear lever gaiter

Post by basilruler1234 » Mon Dec 09, 2019 8:27 am

I've read as many of the threads on this as I can find but I can't seem to find the answer to this question, so hoping the forum can help. Can anyone tell me how the base of the gear lever gaiter is secured in position at its base? I've attached a photo of a demo as a picture tells a thousand words and all that, thank you.

Hi James..have a look at this post....3rd photo......the leather is attached to a metal retainer.....which is then held in place by small lugs undreneath....have a look at a parts catalogue...SNG for example....Steve viewtopic.php?f=5&t=5652 PS if your wanting to remove leather gaiter you need to remove center consuke and access from underneath

I had seen this post but couldn't see how the metal ring was held in place. Are the lugs attached to the blister and the ring held between the blister underside and the lug then?

Have you got an S2 gearbox tunnel & gauntlet fitted to your S1 then? The S1s just have the rubber glove thingy.
Or so I understand - I'm not much of an expert on trim changes etc.

The early 4.2 cars had the rubber gaitor but that was replaced by an Ambla (faux leather) sleeve in about 1967.
