Could someone please tell me if Vredestein 185 x 15 tyres are ok fitted to 5" x 15" wheels please?

Yes, I’ve got their Sprint Classic 185 r15 V on my new 5x15 wires.
If you want to spend twice as much, go for Cinturato’s or Dunlop’s or Michelins - there are lots of choices and opinions on which are ‘best’.

Many thanks Richard, I don't drive it hard (or much!) so I will stick with the Vredesteins.

I’ve just switched from Vred 205/70’s to their 185 r15v so will be interesting to see what the difference is. I’ve not had chance to try them yet but I’m expecting low speed manoeuvring to be most noticeable.
I got them from Camskill - £131 each delivered.

Need to buy tires soon and was thinking of switching from my current modern type 205s Bridgestones to the 185 Vreds.
I have 6” Dunlop wheels. I like the look of the 205s but read a lot how much better the 185s are in a variety of ways.

What size wheels are you running with the 185 Verdi’s.

Also considering the 205 70 Vreds as i hear due to their “classic” xsection design they would be superior to a modern 205 for similar reasons as the 185s are better?

Was looking for some pics showing track width differences say from rear and front of car.
Also how the 205 Vreds perform compared to a “modern “ profile 205.

Sounds like you like the 185 vs the 205 Vred.

Unfortunately although the Dunlop and Cinturato seem to get superior reviews I need to stay with something more affordable.

I have Vredestein Sprint Classics on my car at the moment and am pleased with them. However, I was tempted earlier this year to get some new wire wheels and Pirelli Cinturato tyres for a completely original look. I contacted the main tyre dealer that is often quoted on this forum. They were very helpful. However, when I asked how old the tyres were that they had in stock, they went and looked. At random, they pulled out two tyres that were both well over a year old from their manufacturing date codes. That worried me given the price of the tyres and the recommended max 10 year period we are recommended to use tyres. They also said that they were unsure when they would get their next stock in but, by default, would look to sell the tyres they already had in stock rather than the new tyres they were taking delivery on.

For tyres such as these with low turnover o/a price, I wonder whether we (or the JEC) should begin to lobby specialist tyre suppliers for some form of discount arrangement whereby you pay the max MRP for brand new (i.e. < 3 months old) tyres and then a sliding scale of discount for every 3 months they are older than that. It does not feel appropriate to pay full price when 20% of the life of a tyre has already passed.

I had a similar right response here from Universal Tire. Stock was not the freshest. Would be nice to have some prorated prices on aged ties but I would think they would want some timed consolidated purchases so they don’t purchase and then have to sit on stock at a discount.

185R 15 (i.e. full height).

So Richard, your links were informative. You have driven on both the 205 and 185 Vreds and although the Vreds 205 is a period design tire it still results in heavy steering and inferior handling when compared to the 185.

I wouldn’t say the 205’s result in ‘inferior handling’, they just required a bit more input to the steering wheel, particularly when manoeuvring at low speed (parking for example). I did 250 miles on the 205’s and about 140 on the 185’s and handling on both were equally good, but steering was lighter on the 185’s.

I am currently running a modern design 205 RE92 Bridgestone. They need replacement.

Does anyone have experience with the difference between running a modern 205 vs a classic design 205 like the Vreds or Dunlop Aquajet? About the same or less effort and the more preferred period handling or are they about the same?
