#1 3.8 Clutch spring colour

Post by Welsh62fhc » Tue Aug 18, 2020 10:46 pm

Hi Folks

What colour springs should a 3.8 E-type have on a Borg & Beck clutch? Did these come fully painted from B & B or did Jaguar just splash a bit of colour on each spring to determine between other clutches? Think they should be a mauve colour.

Thanks Gary

You are correct with mauve.
I used a NOS red springed cover for many years and could not detect any difference in 'bite' .
As I remember each spring was partially painted with the colour - just a dash so to speak.

There's a paragraph on page 6 (top right hand side) of Guy Broad's shared wisdom that refers to the bright purple springs as being a) the only version that is now available, and b) the strongest one that was ever available.

Not sure when these words were penned, so whether a) is still the case.

It's a shame he got stuck with those old XK120-150 cars and didn't apply his talents to modern ones like ours.
