I have tried searching for something similar to this on the forum, but could not find anything relevant.
At some point during a journey with the passenger seat occupied. the back will slip backwards (recline) on the RHS (tunnel side) only. It happens even with my young daughter in the car, so not overloaded. Once it happens if the seat is pulled forward and placed back then it stays in the normal position.
I have tried pushing back on the seat back but cannot get it to slip
Has anybody had this issue before?
What do I look for on the mechanism when I remove the seat?
I do not know if these S1 seats have a reclining feature (photo), as I have never tried to adjust the position.

#2 Re: Series 1 Seat back slipping / reclining
Yes, I had the same but as I replaced the stock seats with those from the MX5 I can't for the life of me remember how I fixed it.
The recline works by flipping two hinged packing pieces between two positions and the seat back slips off one of those pieces. Suggest seat out of car and observe where there is movement, probably caused by the seat back being loose or a worn hinge bushing.

Hi Andy,
It could be that your seat back is slipping off the hinged wedge seat raiser which are under the hinges on both sides. See my pictures in this tread.

Edit: it looks like I have just repeated what David said

Thanks for the link,
So from the pic on the linked thread the blocks at the back of the seat can be swung back to provide the 2nd reclined position. Andy

#5 Re: Series 1 Seat back slipping / reclining
Just investigated, and I found that the block on the RHS had been positioned inadvertently in the upright position, swinging it back down to match the other side should have done the trick. There is much more land for the seat back to rest on in the more upright seat position, the witness marks show contact is on the outside of the block as it is.
So hopefully, in the words of Ed China "that's been an easy fix"
Thanks
Andy
