#1 S1 2+2 wiring loom and footwell

I have a series 1 2+2 which is nearing completion of a four year restoration.

The trimmer has concerns about the bulk of the loom in the passenger footwell. He is suggesting it’s way too bulky. I managed to get the original steel panel which holds this bulk of cables in the FHC but the 2+2 appears to be different and there is of course an shelf to go in as well.

Could anybody help with how this was trimmed together with how the shelf fitted with the cable bundle. I would be grateful for any pics as I am sure others doing a 2+2 would. I am wondering if the builder who is different from the trimmer has put the cables in and out of the wrong holes creating this bulk which is now difficult to neatly trim. I am wondering if we need to make a larger metal conduit.

Many thanks for any help.
Chris

Recently finished mine with no problems in this area. I used a piece of metal conduit underneath the card cover shown in Trevors picture. Make sure the large P clip is in place in the footwell where the loom passes through into the engine bay. Its a bit of a bugger to fit. Has the installer correctly positioned the loom with all the branches that run off to the heater, voltage regulator and heater all inside the engine bay?

Sorry for not coming back earlier did not seem to get a notification of your kind posts.

Is it possible to get a picture of your cable entry points. Just to make sure mine is correct. Trimmer seems to think there is too much bulk compared to FHC.

Would you have had as much cable as before you trimmed as you see in my pic;

Hi Chris,

This is a 65 FHC, but I wouldnt have thought it would be that different on a 2+2.

Just to add to the thread …
This is my March ‘62 3.8 left footwell showing the P clip in position(bit of a bugger) and the aluminium’s conduit which I believe is original . It has a triangular cut out at the midpoint that clears a frame bolt that comes through the body and a cut out at the top end to allow access to the bullet connectors
