Engine install

Frame wrapped and ready for engine install tomorrow
Will remove oil filter prior. Is it necessary to drain engine oil?

Assuming you are putting it in from above, you need to raise the rear of the car by at least 6 to 9 inches to give adequate clearance for the gearbox

You will remember to put the prop shaft in place before you install the engine, won't you ! ?

Pete, forgive me if you’ve already done this but are you happy the clutch etc are all in good order save having to remove the engine again?
There are lots of suggestions regarding installing the engine from above and below and reminding owners to remove such items as oil filter first. Hate to see you getting stuck halfway.

Chris, yep prop shaft is in, it’s obscured by under-felt in the photo. I have the rear wheels on blocks as per when I removed the engine so should suffice.

Geoff, new clutch fitted and flywheel machined and balanced. Slave has correct free play as per manual so fingers crossed. I fitted the oil filter and added oil post assembly so I could crank the engine to circulate oil as it was to sit for some months (11 as it turns out)

A productive day in the garage:
Vac tank installed
Engine installed and bolted up (within the hour - went seamlessly thank goodness!)
Prop shaft bolted up
New speedo cable fitted
All wires, linkages & cables attached
Air & oil filters fitted
Dynamator fitted along with pulleys & belt
Engine & gearbox breathers fitted

Tomorrow:
Fit spark plugs, leads & conduit along with new dome nuts & D washers
Fit header tank, radiator & electric fan

I’ll leave exhaust system off till Rob Beere adjustable reaction plate is fitted (due to arrive Monday)
Will also leave seats etc out till after start up.

Thanks to my two mates who helped shoehorn the engine in.

Hi Mich,
I tell you that beer went down fast!
I’m very satisfied with the days work but exhausted too. I’ll sleep well not worrying about dangling my engine over the frame!
