Hi
Having recently fitted my Dynamator, and a belt just big enough to squeeze over the pulleys with the Dynamator as close to the block as it will go, I note that when adjusted for belt tension (about halfway out along the adjuster) the Dynamator pulley is touching the wiring harness running along the inside of the frame. If I use a shorter belt to bring adjustment in for clearance, I doubt I’d get said belt on. I can’t find any decent photos in my reference books to see what others look like for clearance. I assume the Dynamator is physically the same size as the original dynamo? Any photos appreciated.
Cheers,
Pete

Thanks Phil, yours being LHD is a little different with the brake pipe running along the top. I’m assuming your wiring harness runs underneath the frame tube? Mine is along the inside of the frame which is the problem as it’s too close to the dynamo pulley. Perhaps it should be underneath?

I was going to include a photo but the link isn’t appearing for some reason.

At a guess, isn’t an alternator pulley generally smaller than a dynamo pulley.
Is you pulley the original from the dynamo?

Yes, the harness runs under the frame on our car. That also appears to be the case for car 881640 on page 1 of the 3.8 Factory Fit section. Picture extracted below

Yep, I’ll have to disconnect some wires , pull the harness back and feed it under so it doesn’t foul the pulley. What a nuisance.

Wiring harness re-routed and adequate clearance now. Not such a horrible job really although would’ve been easier without radiator etc. Shame I hadn’t noticed earlier. In the process I did notice the starter cable had been sandwiched between the engine mount and bracket which was less than ideal!
