A silly problem! I have just fitted out the doors on no 39 and have an odd problem. The window to door seal (waist seal?) gets dragged down by the window and up again by it. It cant be fitted any other way than to the door top chrome, It seems impractical to lubricate it in any way as it will smear it up the window. Any ideas welcome please!

Do you mean the weather seal?
The one that fits into the chrome strip that then screws to the lip of the upper door where the glass come out?
If so you are lucky you don't have a gap between the window and the seal
Just replaced mine in my series 2
Had a devil of a job adjusting them to meet the window
You can move the window frame to adjust this distance but honestly they are kind of crap
Same as the ones on most cars of this age and its why the doors rust out at the bottom due to water getting past the seal
They even put holes in the bottom of the doors to let the water out!
If the window frame is twisted or the door badly re built then it can be a real problem getting them to fit properly
If the seal Doesn't touch the window it won't work all that well and if there is a gap the water just runs straight down into the door to begin its hideous work
Try adjusting the frame in the door
Last resort would be to cut the rubber seal down a bit I would guess but that would be tricky
