#1 Which cooling fan relay?

Post by peters3103 » Tue Dec 15, 2020 9:27 pm

Hi,
Should the cooling fan relay be 3 pin or 4 pin?
The correct Jaguar part number C18122 (superseded to SRB111) at SNGB is 4 pin and is listed as “normally open type”
C17338 is 3 pin but is listed for the 3.8 as a horn relay.

Not all the original relay iterations are available any more, so the usuals will sell you something similar (ish) even if you order on the correct part number.

I've had to do some creative wiring to get the replacements to work. You sometimes need to make a skip cable in order to get power to both circuits.

If necessary give me a call and I can talk you through it. I'm on a houseboat on the Murray for 4 days starting tomorrow out of mobile range but back Monday.

If you have the old relay it is a simple job to open it up and put a modern relay inside it, keeping the appearence the same. You need a "normally open" relay. loads of them available on the net, just make sure it will physically fit, has a 12v coil and has a high enough current rating.

Unfortunately I don’t have an old relay. It’s fitted with a modern which is why I want to replace it. Good suggestion though if I can find an original one to use for the case.
