#1 Clutch Thrust Bearing Premature Failure ?

Post by DavidH » Sun Dec 20, 2020 1:39 pm

I have read a couple of reports recently describing how new clutch thrust bearings have failed very soon after an engine rebuild. There is a description of such an event in this months E Type Club Magazine.
I have had a previous bad experience with a BMC B series engine about 10 years ago when a poorly made batch of thrust bearings sourced from outside Europe, created problems for a number of owners. A friend recently told me that the Morris Minor Owners club are currently having similar issues with the A series engine.
So my question is.... I am about to install a new (Borg and Beck) clutch thrust bearing in my 3.8l and it would be useful if possible to know if anyone has had the above problem and if so who manufactured the thrust bearing. As am sure everyone is well aware... the cost of a thrust bearing is pretty insignificant compared to the cost of subsequently having to replace it !
