#1 Chassis plate fixing area S1
Can anybody please tell me whether the chassis area fixing location of a S1 3.8 is absolutely flat or curved, or can either end finish be found on standard vehicles?

I think it's probably supposed to be flat but often it has a slightly convex curve to it, as you're alluding to.
I've always assumed that this was a function of getting that corner box section to come together properly.

My early 4.2 (with several 3.8 features) has a definite slight arch to the chassis plate fixing area. Car has all original panels with no repair work, btw.

Excellent thank you. That's put my mind at rest. Both sides are definitely concave. The old girl is as straight as an original E Type could be after 56 years. The paint and panel sealer is not lifted and there's not evidence of anything thereabouts being lumped but it was a concern because I'd not noticed it before I removed the chassis plate.

Hi Steven,
This area is part of the inner sill, so has the same contours.
I would say slightly convex towards the inside, but otherwise flat.
