Oil filter head on 3.8 and 4.2 E type

#1 Oil filter head on 3.8 and 4.2 E type
I have a 3.8 E type where the oil pressure is supect due to possibly the Balance Valve. I have also a 4.2 Filter head which is dfiferent from the 3.8 as the gasket is "O" shaped in the centre on the 3.8 and an upside down "question mark" on the 4.2. Can I fit a 4.2 filter head to a 3.8 block using the correct 4.2 gasket? Are there any problems in replacing the 3.8 wih the 4.2 filetr head?
