Angled speedo drive
#1 Angled speedo drive
After my speedo packed up on my S1 Ihave identified the problem as the angled drive into the gearbox so having jacked up the car how do I get a spanner on the speedo cable nurled nut as there is not much room and if i can unscrew the speedo cable does the angle drive just unscrew from the gearbox

I dont think you can do this from underneath the car. I have always taken the centre console off instead. Below this is a metal cover held in place with a few screws and below that should be some foam. All the above is easily removed.
The drive itself is now easily accessible from inside the car and you should be able to undo it with your fingers although probably it will have been overtightened at some time so you can use mole grips or similar.
The angle drive is part of the cable but before replacing the cable check that it is actually fitted correctly in the first place... it IS possible to do up the knurled part without the cable being fully engaged but you will know when it is engaged properly because the knurled bit screws down further...
Have fun its an easy job
