So it’s almost time to recover my 1967 Etype seats
They are comfy but kind of bland
Lately I see 3.8 seats repro with padding upgrades
Do they adjust?
Do they just bolt in?
Annnnd are they reasonably comfy if new padding is added
I’ve driven original but not so great
Thanks in advance

3.8 seats in a 4.2 ?
#2 Re: 3.8 seats in a 4.2 ?
Good Evening,
I have an early 62 FHC. I bought the car with some very nice 4.2 seats in which were very comfortable, but I felt they were not quite right. I purchased some new period correct 3.8 seats. I fitted them, and although I am not overly tall, my head was touching the roof, and most annoyingly the top of the windscreen was right in my sight line. In order to lower the seats I bolted them directly to the tub. Still no good. On top of that there is no rake adjustment to be had, and they were very uncomfortable. I stayed with them as long as I could because they looked so fabulous, but in the end I put the old 4.2 seats back in, and I am now enjoying driving the car again. I heard that some people are fitting MX5 seats, which may be more comfortable.
My advice is to stick to the 4.2 seats.
All the best, Chris.

I'd have to agree with the above post. My '64 seats were replaced by my father years ago. The original seats offer little to no adjustments, and although they were correct for the car, they were just not very comfortable. Dad replaced them with '66 style seats. Much more comfortable and "user friendly". Unless you want to be 100% correct, stick with the seats you have.
Here is a pic of my seats.

Have a good read of all the upgrades to MX5 seats and you’ll see they are the way to go. Better support, proper headrests if you get rear ended more comfortable. And the price is very reasonable compared with original E Type seats
