Hi, About to order a new seal for rear hatch. Will get it from C O Baines (1 continuous length ) and leave a gap at lowest point round body drain hole. ( this looks to be the way it's fitted from Parts Book and the Factory Fit 3.8 photos).
Is this the perceived wisdom??

That’s petty much how I did it. Also, don’t be tempted to ‘stretch’ the seal as you fit it, particularly around the bends, as this can affect its sealing effectiveness.

Hi Richard, What adhesive did you use? Seem to remember seeing a post about using E6000 but I've never heard of it and on looking into it , the bumf said it was 'permanent"! Inclined to use Evostik or similar.

I used a high temperature contact adhesive from Woolies, a product called Alphabond AF178, mainly because I’d used it for a number of interior trimming jobs as well as the bonnet to bulkhead seal, and it stays stuck!

Yes to 1 piece…far better fit than the 2 part from Wilkinson’s….high temp adhesive from Wayside adhesives….eBay…..

That would have been me.

E6000 is a clear "goop" that will stick pretty much anything to anything. It sets over 24 hours or so and allows you time to position rubber parts accurately.

E6000 is available in the UK on eBay (link below) and presumably elsewhere too.

It is streets ahead of trying to use contact adhesive in terms of positioning the seal perfectly.

For the rear seals I often fit them dry, with masking tape, and shut the boot and leave it a couple of weeks to let the rubber take a bit of a set before gluing it.

For those who want to use E6000. It is sold in North America through many outlets labelled as Goop. There are multiple different labels (plumbers, marine, shoe-goo, e6000, and a few more) and in both clear and black. As far as I can figure all the types are actually exactly the same product when you look at the spec sheets. It does stick to many hard to stick to materials and is also paintable. Once hardened it is pretty much mechanical removal although there are reports of toluene softening it.
